After you add the layer, a new window, like the one on the left, will pop up. Make sure your settings are like the ones in the screen shot.

Click "OK".

choose bucket for flood fill

Now, on  your tool bar, click the paint bucket. Your tool bar may be horizontal. It depends on how you have created your own PSP set-up. Mine is vertical, on the right of my PSP screen.

choose the color chooser tool

Next, choose the color chooser tool. This will allow you to select the color you want the bucket tool to add.
6

If you are using PSP 5, or PSP 6, make sure your tool controls are set to "color", go on to step 8.

Everyone else...you will need to choose the type of fill for your bucket.

This can be tricky. You need to place your cursor (mouse) over the little triangle and click until you see the 4 images show. It will look like the screen shot on the right, but will NOT have the red circle on it.

fill type selection

Once you have the images showing (it can take several tries), click on the paint brush. I circled it in red to make it easy to see in this tutorial. You will NOT see a red circle.

Now you want to choose your color. Click on the Foreground color on your screen. The last color I used was a blue, so that is what shows here. You may have another color entirely. Do not worry about the yellow box with the letters and the numbers. It may or may not pop up when you click on the foreground color.

Anyway, click on the place on your screen where the blue box shows here. It may be another color, but do not worry about that.
